“Fantastic, honest service”
Navigate – 29th January 2024
I can not recommend this hotel enough. It is reasonably priced. The rooms are clean and the hotel well staffed and attended to. Breakfast included was at whatever time we liked, tasty, and with lots of options! The manager Bhanu was kind, flexible, accommodating and honest. He arranged on short notice for myself and my partner a half day private desert tour run by Jeetu (who makes a lovely chai) and Nepal (camel guide) which was inclusive of dinner under the stars and a camel ride – this was well facilitated (direct pickup), very well priced and the experience a lovely end to our trip. If you stay here I suggest you follow suit and book a night in the dessert through Bhanu as we did.
“Great Experience”
jaqriv – Boston – 19th january 2024
Killa Bhawan is a lovely and beautifully restored heritage property perched high on the side of the Fort. The views from the various balconies are in a word, magical. In the afternoons while enjoying a cup of chai, watching the pigeons fly in unison along the steep flanks of the Fort was breathtaking. The owners are attentive to the comfort of their guests and check in regularly to ensure all is well. Breakfast while not luxurious, was certainly adequate and checked all the boxes for the right start to a busy day.
I highly recommend Killa Bhawan to those travelers, like myself, who enjoy an authentic experience in the heart of the historic district.
“Beautiful hotel. Perfect position. Friendly staff”
mjfxr – Sidney – 13th january 2024
This is a great hotel. The position is perfect. The rooms are great. There is a beautiful verandah to relax on and look over the fort entrance and city. Mr Bhanu and Manish were really welcoming and genuinely friendly. We had some nice chats on the verandah. Breakfast was great and freshly cooked. They could organise tours for you if you wanted. I loved how you could always get a (free) pot of coffee or chai in your room or for the verandah. Great place. This was the highlight of our India trip.
“Spectacular in all ways”
Travelwonder – 6th January 2024
Wow. The view, the service, the warmth of the staff and I can’t say enough about the Owner Bhanu. He took such good care of us, going above and beyond. I will never forget his hospitality. This place is magical, with its charming and historic rooms that also provide the modern comforts, making it a perfect blend. My friends and I stayed almost a week and we will be back again for many reasons. There’s no better place in Jasalmer than Killa Bhavan.
“Lived like royalty for 2 days in Killa Bhawan”
Varshas2792 – January 2024
Killa Bhawan was the highlight of our family trip to Jaisalmer. Bhanuji and team opened up their beautiful property to us and for 2 days we lived like kings and queens, thanks to their amazing, kind hospitality!
The property was tastefully decorated, neat and conveniently located. Each corner was so picturesque and the views were breathtaking!
Don’t miss out on the evening chai on the terrace. It will give you all kinds of Masakali feels!
“Great stay in Jaisalmer!”
Traveldope26 – Dubai – 26th December 2023
Beautiful heritage hotel located in the Jaisalmer Fort with amazing views of the Fort area and the City. Clean and beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Chai or breakfast, taking in the amazing views out on one of the terraces is a must-do! Mr.Bhanu, the proprietor, provided us with top-notch personalized service – he helped us plan our itinerary, book tours and transportation, provided us with restaurant recommendations, and basically made himself available to us as our go-to person for anything Jaisalmer or Rajasthan. All the staff at the property were professional and courteous as well. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely come back again! Highly recommended.
“Felt like royalty at Killa Bhavan”
878varshan – 18th December 2023
We were transported back in time while staying in this beautiful original house/hotel located inside the fort. Stunning views of the fort, cityscape & the bustling market- we were treated like royalty by the warm hospitality of the staff. Breakfast was delicious & made to order. The most memorable experience was the desert Safari recommended by the hotel staff- walking in sand dunes amongst camels while watching the sunset followed by a delicious Rajasthani dinner under starry skies while watching a very enjoyable & interactive cultural song & dance show.
“Absolutely the Best!!!”
FaithfulinFrance – 13th December 2023
To get the most out of our recent 2 ½ week trip through Rajasthan, we made sure to stay in all sorts of hotels–from luxury to basic. And I have to say, our stay at the Killa Bhawan was for me the absolute highlight of them all. This hotel is simply stunning–with its location within the fort, and its artful interiors that are so tastefully designed and full of character. The breakfasts are generous and delicious, the staff delightful and solicitous…and the view! Don’t get me started!!! All I can say is: 1. Make sure you fit Jaisalmer into your Rajasthan itinerary and 2. Make sure that you stay here. That’s it. Plain and simple.
“Luxury stay in the fort”
Odissey21327490313 – 28th November 2023
A truly special place to stay, high above the busy city of Jaisalmer , within the fort wall. From our room we could look down upon the old city and out towards the horizon. The proprietors of the Killa Bhagwan gave us a delightful reception and made us feel that for the time we stayed, it was truly our home. To stay in this heritage property was to experience the past first hand while embracing the comforts of the 21st century. There is no lift and a few sets of stairs but absolutely worth it.
While the hotel itself provides only breakfast, there are a several eating places close by or the visitor can venture into the old city.
“Absolutely magical and breathtaking”
Romanib – Sidney – Australia – 22nd November 2023
Killa Bhawan is located in the fort and is absolutely breathtaking. My room had views across the town of Jaisalmer, was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The staff are very kind and knowledgeable and they went out of their way to provide local information. The location is ideal because it is centrally located, so you can walk everywhere. If you visit Jaisalmer, you must stay at Killa Bhawan. I hope and pray that I will return in 2024. My heartfelt thanks to the staff at KB. You welcomed me into the space and it felt like home away from home.
“The most majestic experience in India”
PavlaZ145 – Kula Lumpur – Malaysia – 11th November 2023
I would happily rate 10 STARS ⭐️ our stay in Killa Bhawan and the positive influence this choice had on our overall stay in Jaisalmer.
We enjoyed everything: the tastefully decorated rooms, the preserved authenticity, the rich history (imagine sleeping in one of the fort’s 99 bastions dating 900 years back), the breathtaking views enjoyed over a tasty breakfast or a cup of an evening chai.
The customer service is outstanding, we took the advantage of the hospitality of Mr. Bhanu and Mr. Manish to extend their qualitative contacts to a local guide, evening dinner, desert sleepover, taxi driver… Every single time an over-expected service.
Thank you for making us discovering Jaisalmer and to fall in love with the rich life of its majestic fort 🙏🏻
We dream to come back again!

“A walk through in an age old heritage with contemporary comfort”
bhansalig – 9th November 2023
A must visit hotel that will tie a knot of relationship with people who are managing Hotel Killa Bhawan. A nostalgic experience of a walk through in an age old heritage with a contemporary comfort and a very warm hospitality. A must to stay in Hotel Killa Bhawan, when you are in Jaiselmer.
“A home away from home”
Rachjwet – London – UK – 6th November 2023
A home away from home. What an incredible place to stay. The views, the hospitality and the location are second to none. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel at home and encourage you to treat the property as your own. We stayed four nights and spent one day lazing in the property and enjoying the sights and sounds of Jaisalmer. We felt very relaxed and refreshed! Jaisalmer is a wonderful city to visit and if you can, I would highly recommend staying in this unique property.
“Killa Bhawan – a unique staying experience inside the Sonar Kella, Jaisalmer”
Santanu_ch_1708 – New delhi – 29th October 2023
Like all other bengalis of my generation, I had grown up watching Satyajit Ray’s classic ‘Sonar Kella’ and often dreamt of visiting and living in this wonderful desert fort in Jaisalmer, which is probably the only living fort in India. Killa Bhawan made this dream into a reality. Situated within the fort, Killa Bhawan provides you a unique staying experience. Bhanu-ji, Manish and the team with their wonderful hospitality ensures that Killa Bhawan becomes your home away from home. We stayed in room no. 10, which not only had its own history but also a spectacular view of the Fort. Next time I visit Jaisalmer, I will stay in Killa Bhawan only, and that too in Room No 10.
“You live like a queen here!”
Majbritt2013 – Copenhague – Denmark – 12th October 2023
Fantastic hotel situated in the old fort. You have a great view over the palace and the city.
The service is excellent, they really treat you well here. They arrange everything you need.
We stayed 2 nights and came back to wait for train and were welcomed again.
“Best hospitality in India!”
Travelywg – Winnipeg – Canada – 3rd October 2023
We loved our stay at Killa Bhawan. The hotel is a handful of clean, thoughtfully curated and very well air conditioned rooms set inside the Jaisalmer Fort. The hotel has a rooftop terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast and watching the sunset. This was by far one of our favourite properties during our stay in India.
Besides the stunning location, the staff and especially the owners, Mr. Bhanu & Mr. Manish, are what made our stay extra special. They arranged a complimentary auto ride to and from the hotel upon check-in and check-out, accommodated an early breakfast for us the morning we left Jaisalmer, gave us tons of local advice, and even agreed to mail us an item that we left behind. They are always happy to have a conversation and want you to feel at home. There is always a fridge stocked with bottled water and the most delicious chai available any time.
We look forward to staying at Killa Bhawan in the future and would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for an authentic and unique experience in Jaisalmer.
“Best star heritage hotel in the entire Jaisalmer region!”
pjElysium – Taipei – Taïwan – September 2023
Everything was simply amazing!
Firstly the location is quite great, where you can stay inside the fort feeling like a prince/princess with the best view of this city.
Secondly, all the staff was very friendly and supportive, always wearing a smile to welcome you!
The owner, Manish, was really nice and talkative. He guided us through the whole history of the city and all the must-do in the city.
Finally, the room was neat and spacious, which made us feel like a second comfortable home, and you can have a awesome view from the window in the room as well.
Overall, would give 10 out of 10 to this well-maintained heritage property!
“Wonderful Jaisalmer”
Sammio2 – 25th July 2023
Stunning location, amazing staff, beautiful views, historical rooms. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, especially Bhanu for his hospitality and excellent guided tours around the wonderful city and fort of Jaisalmer. Thank you again!
“Two nights in the Golden City”
OnAir – Rome – italy – 14th August 2023
The Killa Bhawan Hotel was a wonderful gem in the heart of the Jaisalmer Fort. It is the perfect place if you want to live in first person the fort, and seeing it changing with different shades according to the moment of the day.
The hospitality was fantastic, everyone is constantly available 24/7 to make you have the best experience ever in the hotel.
The furniture was super curated and the rooms were very clean, with possibility of room cleaning every day.
We had two wonderful days in the fort and we definitely recommend it!
“FORTTASTIC GEM OF A HOTEL”
kali S – 27th November 2022
I had the pleasure of staying at this delightful boutique heritage hotel situated right in the heart of the 12th century fort. On my arrival I was very warmly greeted by the three cousins who manage the place. Bhanu, Manu and Manesh who welcomed me like family and made my stay very special. Times in between touring were spent on the terrace with any one or all three of these lively characters who would regale me with anecdotes and knowledgeable information on the history, temples and Havelli’s
My room was very comfortable and well appointed and even tho there is no restaurant anything could be ordered in from nearby. Breakfasts which are included in the room rate are either western or Indian. Always served with a smile and nothing too much trouble. Languid afternoons spent on the rooftop terrace watching the sunset as the sandstone palace directly ahead glowed in the golden light will be something I will always remember. Thank you team Killa Bhawan. Your hospitality warmth and care are exceptional. I will be back.
“Wonderful experience it is when you’re living inside a 12 th century fort.”
Climber 10th December 2022
Our stay at Killa Bhavan was fantastic. We were actually staying inside the 12 th century fort!!It is a lively place. The best part is the terrace from where you get a breathtaking view of the golden city. All tourist places are within 15-20 minutes walk from here. The hosts were very helpful and guided us well. We enjoyed the breakfast which was served with a smile. Thanks to team Killa.
“Unforgettable stay at this charming place”
Regism – Sao Paulo – Brazil – 29th November 2022
Unique experience, amazing view, hospitable staff. Guests are welcomed by the hotel owner themselves, who are extremely kind and generous. Staff is also very helpful and ready to provide you an unforgettable time at this comfortable, beautiful and one-of-a-kind historical building and its breathtaking view to the city and the fort. Highly recommended!
“Lovely Killa Bhawan”
102rajuld – 24th November 2022
I am glad I experienced Jaisalmer through Killa Bhavan and the very lovely Bhanu. The highlight was living in the fort with the amazing view of the golden city. Thank you Bhanu for such personalised service and introducing me to the authentic golden city. The team at Killa Bhavan made it feel like a home stay. I highly recommend Killa Bhavan and KB café for an authentic experience.
“A fantastic welcome – and perfect location”
TEast121 – 23rd November 2023
A fantastic hotel. Built right into the city walls. With a fantastic terrace overlooking the main gates. We had breakfast up on the terrace and it was perfect. Room was lovely & big with a good bathroom. The owners welcomed us like we were home. Made us feel so welcome. Sadly only stayed for 1 night but could easily have stayed for longer.
“Incredible hospitality, gorgeous property”
Outdoormama – Ipswitch – Massachussets – USA – 29th October 2022
Killa Bhawan is the nicest place I have ever stayed, anywhere in the world. Super clean, warm hospitality, lovely amenities…all in a phenomenally atmospheric location with cozy seating nooks everywhere and nice views of the Old Fort. Excellent communication over email.
Korzeam – Hong Kong – 10th October 2022
Managed by a very nice Indian family and owned by a French man, they found the perfect formula: the place is beautifully maintained, the service is warm and discreet, you feel home.
And this is just probably the nicest place in town, given its location.
They also organized a perfect desert safari for me: good price, beautiful setup, super kind staff.
The KB Coffee is owned and managed by the same people, and has the most beautiful terrace in town.
Overall, the place was made with taste, and there is clearly a focus on cleaness. If only all places in India could be managed this way…
Will definitely strongly recommend to any friend coming to Jaisalmer.
“Amazing stay at Killa Bhawan”
Jehan J – Goa – 20th April 2022
Killa Bhawan is a beautiful place to stay, in an amazing location within the fort of Jaisalmer. We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights there, including an amazing night sleeping out on the sand dunes of the Thar desert (also organised by Killa Bhawan). The owner and his team leader were extremely helpful, not only during our stay in Jaisalmer but they also recommended us places to stay in other cities in Rajasthan, and organised road transport for us between all these cities & towns. They were also very helpful in other recommendations in the Jaisalmer area. Overall a great experience and highly recommended!
“Incredible experience!”
Breccheeseman – Sidney – Australia – 15th April 2022
We had the most spectacular stay at Killa Bhawan! The room and location were really beautiful – perched high above the town in the fort, we felt welcomed and looked after as though we were staying with friends. Breakfast, housekeeping and the hotel’s facilities were all immaculate, this really is an amazing place to stay in Jaisalmer.
Bhanu organised everything for us from the moment we arrived in town – his recommendations for the heritage walk, village tour and desert experience were spot on, we loved it all.
I would highly recommend anyone thinking of visiting Jaisalmer to do it and to stay here, it is a fabulous, unique, luxury experience. Thank you Bhanu! We will definitely be back.
“Best boutique hotel in Jaisalmer”
thrillscoop – Chennai – India – 6th March 2022
An amazing botique hotel inside a living fort. My family will never forget the experience at Killa Bhavan. The hotel is in the centre of a busy fort, and you will feel like you are living in an ancient world. The hotel is elevated so much that it gives an amazing view of the golden city. Best of all is the management and the staff. They will treat you like one of their own family. One of the safest places to be. Overall, I felt royal at Killa Bhavan. I would recommend this to all types of travellers and I will visit again here very soon.
“Life is about experience.A must take at Killa Bhawan”
Naren_raykar – Bangalore – India – 24th February 2022
Had been to Jaisalmer in Dec end just before wave 3 along with family. Discovered this lovely place that was unique experience of living inside a fort
THe highlight was an evening spent on the terrace simply watching life from a different perspective.
Enjoyed local breakfast on the terrace the next day morning watching the city unfolding its life.
And the rooms were a delight to anyone who loves history, art, design, uniqueness of life in places.
Lastly, the best part was the warm hospitality by Mr. Bhanu and his team. Always there to help beyond service.
A lot to tell about the experience but would not want to steal the novelty of the experience from you more.
Go and stay to create your own life experience.I would certainly if life gives me another opportunity to visit Jaisalmer.
“Fantastic stay Fantastic Hospitality Fantastic Views”
We spent 3 days at Killa Bhawan in Decemeber, 2021. It was an incredible stay, within the fort. The sunrise and sunsets over the city of Jaisalmer were breathtaking. The rooms were unique, yet comfortable. We stayed in two upper floor rooms — they were spotless. Breakfast was delicious. The owners treat you like family. We really wish had more time to spend there. Our trip included 15 days in Rajasthan, but the three spent at KB and Jaisalmer were the most memorable.
“Jaisalmer”
Dpak_mv – India – 27th January 2022
Last year in December, my family of five visited the mesmerizing Jaisalmer. Our visit wouldn’t have been complete without the experience of staying inside the Fort at Killa Bhavan.
Killa Bhavan became a home away from home thanks to the wonderful hospitality and caring attitude of Bhanu Ji. The rooms were exotic and designed to reflect the glory of the culture.
The place is best for spending a few days with family , alone or even work (from home)
Having breakfast in the balcony while watching the sun soaked golden fort was a sight we can never forget. I highly recommend Killa Bhavan and would love to come back here again.
“INCREDIBLE stay, AMAZING hospitality!”
Sidgore – USA – 21st January 2022
If you are reading this review, book this stay- it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience of living within a fairytale. I hjghly recommend for couples, families, and solo travelers alike.
✅ Incredible historical property, well-renovated and furnished
✅ Friendly and helpful hospitality throughout stay
✅ Experience the insider culture and lifestyle of Asia’s oldest “Living Fort”
❎ It is literally a centuries old structure, so need to be a little understanding of water issues etc. which is out of the host’ control. They will.help you through anything though.
Our host Banu and the entire team took utmost care of my family and I during the days we stayed with them while visiting from the US. Being locals with knowledge of insider activities, they recommend perfect excursions.
The property is a lovely, quaint stay which is beautifully decorated. As the photos will show, it feels like a dream. Breakfast was incredible each day, and we are still thinking about the many hot cups of chai we drank overlooking Jaisalmer from our room windows.
Note that you are staying within a structure that is centuries old so you need to be understanding of the hot water situation. We never found it to be an issue.
Thank you, looking forwarding to visiting again!
“A Home Away from Home Inside the Towering Jaisalmer Fort”
322sumedhar – 17th January 2022
I stayed at this breath taking place for my honeymoon in the honeymoon suites. It is right out of a Disney movie. I recommend because 1. You live inside a real fort with real history. 2. Jaisalmer is a small town and this fort itself is the main attraction. 3. We didn’t want to be restricted to a night desert safari as it is toooo cold. Here we got the option of a flexible safari any time we wanted and it has a butler service for everything! 4. Authentic rajasthani food is surprising hard to find in Jaisalmer but here Bhanu ji and Many ji , the managers immediately recognised our interest in exploring unique cuisines and made sure we tried something new everyday in our complementary breakfast! 5- excellent view but don’t see photos before you go, I guarantee it’ll surprise you. 6- the room has an experience balcony, perfect to drink wine in! I really prefer this place over the other hotel like experiences. This was the real royal experience. Tip- book in advance to get the honeymoon suites. You must see it.
“Great hospitality, Great View, Great Food. Unique Experience.”
Atul31Gupta – New Delhi – 2nd january 2022
Me and my family(8 people + 1 child) had an awesome stay here. BhanuJi made sure we had a wonderful stay and we loved his hospitality.
Right from getting down at Jaisalmer at Airport to getting back to the airport after completing our stay, he made sure everything was smooth.
Sit down with him and plan our your itinerary.
Do make sure you check out the KB Cafe’s lip smacking food. KB Cafe is owned and operated by Killa Bhawan management only.
“Stunning views and hospitality in historic locationt”
Jon5440 – Arlington – Virginia – USA – 10th January 2022
Spent one night in a deluxe heritage room at the start of a trip through Rajasthan. The hotel is within, and seemingly part of, the fort’s walls, with a maze of passages leading to private patios and balconies overlooking the fort and old town below. The morning view was stunning from the patio outside our room, perched high above the noises and activity of the town. The room itself had stone walls, quirky nooks, and small windows typical of the region and surrounding architecture. Two distinct areas left plenty of room for our group of three. Beds were comfy and bathroom adequate. The space heater was a bit clunky but kept us warm as the night got chilly. Breakfast (eggs, toast, fruit, juices, and tea/coffee) was brought to us on the terrace and more of everything offered several times. A perfect start to a day of exploring. The manager was friendly and helpful, as were the entire staff. Upon arrival we were escorted up through the fort’s gates to the hotel, which would have been tricky to find on our own, and hotel staff on motor bikes carried our luggage up the winding streets to meet us. Very easy and hospitable. This is a small hotel that takes care of its visitors individually. It was fun finding new intimate places throughout the property. We would very gladly return, as the town itself was fantastic as well.
“A stay with the best views of Jaisalmer”
Avnishb92 – 31st December 2021
Killa Bhavan was a unique experience. It is within the fort and perched at a height from which you can see the entire city. It is a beautiful sight and the weather in December was brilliant. The people are very friendly and they treat you like family.
They went out of their way to make us comfortable. We were checking out early and Manish ji specially went early in the morning to get us fresh kachoris to take home with us.
The close ness here to the fort and old Jaisalmer is a bonus as you can just walk around and explore the place. No need for a car.
Worth a visit for the view alone.
“Once in a lifetime experience of staying in an actual fort in India”
Suparnapune – Chicago – Illinois – USA – 29th December 2021
Highly recommended. My friend had stayed here back in 2016 and had told us not to miss this hotel. I am so glad we stayed here. The location of this hotel is perfect.. inside India’s only living fort.. almost 1000 years old.. We had booked 2 rooms on the upper floor and 1 of the rooms had a balcony overlooking the fort and the city… that was the place to hang out…!!!! You have to experience it to know the magic..!! It’s beyond words 🙂
The hotel is very well managed by Bhanu ji and his brothers.. I had contacted Bhanu ji for the booking and he gave us all the information and helped us to pick the right rooms. We were well received at the entrance of the fort and our luggage was transferred on bikes and autorikshaws and since we had elderly people with us, we were allowed to go in the rickshaw too while my kid enjoyed the bike ride to hotel 🙂 Once at the hotel, we were showed to the rooms and we were in awe of the view from the terrace. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated.
We hung out on the terraces with tea and coffee in the evening and night and morning too 🙂
The sunrise from the upper terrace was such a mesmerising sight.. the whole fort is coloured pink..
The kachoris and poha they served for breakfast were super yummy..
The staff is courteous and takes good care of the guests.. Bhanu ji and his brothers make sure that the guests feel at home.
We were introduced to a guide who took us on walking and rickshaw tour of Jaisalmer.. Very knowledgable guide and we had a great experience.
Bhanu ji walked us to a restaurant for lunch ( I think it was named Hariyali ) and it had awesome food and ambience..
I also tried the Tibetian restaurant next door for dinner and their soup with flat rice noodles was super yum and had good service and view from their terrace.
“The unique experience of living inside a living fort”
Sandiproy – San Francisco – USA – 28th December 2021
There are many boutique hotels. But it is a unique experience to stay inside a living fort. The views are spectacular but what’s also special is you can sit on the terrace even after the shops have shut down or before they open and enjoy the quiet that finally descends on the fort. That’s really special. Bhanu and Maneesh welcome you like family and are happy to organize everything from heritage walks to delicious hot kachori and local snacks for breakfast. The rooms are not huge but built into the buttress of the fort they are compactly organized and the rounded walls make for a very different experience. Don’t expect all the perks of usual luxury hotels like a 24×7 restaurant or spa or gym. But it’s a beautifully restored property. There’s lots of lounging areas at different levels so you can enjoy the property as a whole rather than just your own room. In fact every time we came back to the room we went up to the terrace to soak in the view whether at night or in the morning, I wish we had spent another night there just to be able to chill in the place and drink my morning tea while watching the golden fort come to life.
“Beautiful hotel stunning view lovely staff”
Ghandique – 22nd December 2021
I stayed here in December 2020 with my family. I always wanted to stay inside the fort of Jaisalmer and Killa Bhawan made every little experience perfect. The view from the fort and our room was breathtaking. Still remember the beautiful, almost private sit out outside our room. The entire place is very tastefully done. The manager Bhanu and his staff made our stay even more memorable. Will definitely stay at Killa Bhawan again.
“The rooms with the best views”
106sonali – New Delhi – 15 December 2021
We spent the last 3 days at Killa Bhawan and it was an unique and fulfilling experience
1. We chose Killa bhawan over the much more glamorous and fancier properties in Jaisalmer
2. the property is an intrinsic part of the fort – it forms a part of the buttress and the unique and individualistic rooms and open spaces add to the experience
3, the views are superb – one gets a birds eye view of the city as well as the palace – well appointed. rooms with doorways and 4 poster beds balconies and terraces that open to the sun and stars – offering you multiple placesto unwind while you plan ahead
4. As this is a living fort – being inside gives you the opportunity to walk around the fort at any time – grab. a cup of tea – chat with the friendly neighbours or just star gaze from the highest point in the fort
5. As the evening sets in and the crowds disappear – be one with the gentry of the fort – it’s easy to believe that this has been your home forever – this experience is difficult to get if living outside
6. The fort itself is clean – think Spain / Granada – the narrow alleys and the small cafes that dot the fort gives you a similar feel
7. Killa Bhawan is a bed and breakfast / but Manish and Manu spare no effort in ensuring you are taken care of -a personalised service that gets you the favourite local icecream or kachori or even a bowl of khichdi if you so desire
8. The owner and the manager ( Manish and Manu) are generational residents of Jaisalmer fort and they regale you with tales both old and new !!
9. However – the steps are a tad steep and the place not suitable for the mobility impacted or young children if these are not your concerns
Killa Bhawan offers you an experience – an opportunity to share the life of a living fort whose history goes back more than 800 years
“Excellent stay”
Gothoskar – Mumbay – 3rd December 2021
Killa Bhawan is the place to stay if you want to experience the vibrancy of the living fort, the royal feeling of staying right next to the Maharaja palace and enjoy the warm hospitality of Bhanu and his brothers. Our flight was preponed so we reached really early around 9 am. Not only did we get a room, they also arranged breakfast at no extra charge. They also arranged a cake for my birthday. The poha is to die for, so is the kachori. They don’t make lunch, dinner in-house but will bring in food from the multiple eateries nearby. The place is strategically located near shops, the fort and the town is right outside the walls. Do ask for airport pickup drop, as there don’t seem to be easy availability of cabs near the airport.
“Exceptionnal heritage stay”
rbnj0904 – Hosur – India – 5 December 2021
Hands down THE place to be in Jaisalmer. Located within the fort, killa bhawan was a pleasant surprise. Exceptionally maintained heritage property with stunning views.
Stayed with my wife and 2 kids. They upgraded my room to a family suite with 2 bedrooms. The person in charge Bhanu made sure we felt at home. Will definitely recommend anyone visiting Jaisalmer to stay here.
“Wonderful stay in Jaisalmer”
Gilonthemove – New Delhi – 27th November 2021
Killa Bhawan was a wonderful hotel for our one night in Jaisalmer. The manager Bhanu was so helpful with everything, and set us up with a great guide for a heritage walking tour. The hotel is beautiful, right inside the fort with incredible views during breakfast outdoors. A perfect spot to enjoy the city. Their sister property in the city also offers spectacular views of the fort for the evening. It’s walking distance from everything. Highly recommend!
“Mesmerizing Views and good old hospitality”
Monae831 – New York – 7th November
Once we arrived at this hotel, I felt like we went back in time. Every corner offered a different view. We got 2 rooms at the top floor. One with private balcony. We had the outside terrace almost to ourselves. The place was very clean and offered all you need from good air conditioning to a kettle to make coffee/tea.
Our trip coincided with the Diwali holidays. We were to watch the fireworks and crackers at night while sitting outside enjoying the great weather and views.
The staff were very accommodating and shuttled upstairs any drinks or food we asked for.
Highly highly recommend to stay here if you are visiting jaislmer and skip the cookie cutter hotels. This is one unique experience you find find somewhere else!
“Incredible view”
Decsta49 – January 2021
I will never forget my stay at Killa Bwahan. It is rustic but still has all the amenities you’d want in a highly rated property such as this. The view is amazing. I simply could not get enough, even braving a stiff January breeze each day just to sit on the terrace.
Manish, Raj, Shambsoo and Banu made sure I was comfortable, every detail and effort was made to please. This unique hotel and its staff are a treasure!
“The best accomodation in Jaisalmer”
Celine L1989 – January 12 2021
Stop your search – you do not need to stay anywhere else but this place. Bhanu runs this place so well with his team and will go out of his way to make you feel welcomed, safe, prepared and at home. He will make sure you get what you need, can navigate your way around the city, and can book things for you such as Camel Safari or airport taxi. The rooms are exquisite, like you are traveling back in time. Delicious food is available which you can enjoy on the roof as you watch the daily life of Jaisalmer go by. Bathrooms are clean, beds are comfortable – I almost didn’t feel a need to explore Jaisalmer because the whole vicinity of Killa Bhawan itself felt like its own adventure and story. Thank you so much for a fantastic time!
“Beautiful, Unique, Homely”
Imonpurple – Jaipur – December 2020
We thoroughly enjoyed this unique homestay in the middle of the Jaisalmer Fort, Sonar Killa… breathtaking views and experience of living inside the only living fort in the world! Delicious, homely breakfast; warm, chatty and hospitable staff (they do everything to make it feel like home!), gorgeous views and so easy to cover all of Jaisalmer by foot! This one’s a must visit!
“Amazing experience – best place to stay in Jaisalmer fort”
Vinalitrivedi – Maharastra – November 2020
A place where Heritage meets Luxury !!
We had a remarkable stay in Killa Bhawan during our time here in Jaisalmer. The property is probably the best in the fort, with a mesmerizing view of the city and the palace. We stayed in the suite room and we found it the right choice we made. We were picked up from the airport and were coordinated well in advance.
The hotel is well managed by Mr. Bhanu, Manish & Manu Maharaj. We enjoyed best in-class hospitality and the breakfast was awesome too. They also helped us with arrangements for sightseeing and recommending places to eat. We found that the prices were reasonable. All the services and communication had a personal touch. The room and entire property is great.
Couple of points to note:
1. Cars are not allowed inside the fort, so your luggage will be transferred separately (the transfer was flawless and completely managed by the hotel).
2. As the hotel is inside the fort, it does not have an elevator. But that will not be a problem.
3. The hotel does not have television and intercom facility, which we didn’t miss at all.
Furthermore, I want to emphasize very kind and professional staff who helped us a lot. It is very safe and right in the center of everything within the fort. City Palace is just 2mins walk. I would recommend Killa Bhawan to everyone.
“A Magical experience”
SS2302 New Delhi – November 2020
Stayed here on our tenth anniversary trip across rajasthan. I fall short of words to express how great our stay here was. The hotel is located inside the fort which in itself is a great experience and it has the best view of the city below. Add to it the amazing hospitality by the staff, they make you feel so welcomed and like family. The saying “atithi devo bhava” is what the staff of this hotel believes in. Special mention to Mr Nikhil who treated us like his own family and made us feel so welcomed and comfortable. He was always ready to help with a smile.
The breakfast was absolutely lip smacking authentic rajasthani food!!! Rooms are comfortable and done up in heritage style and one does get a feeling of royalty when staying here.
The hotel also arranged a desert camp stay for us with Mr Padam who turned out to be an amazing human being! We would recommend you to ask for him specially if you are keen on the desert camp!
Jaisalmer is called the golden city… After our stay here , would like to conclude by saying , jaisalmer is the golden city and its people truly have hearts of gold!!!
Thank you to all the staff of killa bhawan for making our stay here so memorable and making us believe in humanity again!!! Would like to thank Mr Sunil again for his amazing hospitality!!! Keep up the great work!!! We will be revisiting you for sure!
“Magical stay”
Whitneya393 – March 2020
If you want to have the authentic Jaisalmer experience, then this is where you want to stay. It’s the most magical little hotel situated inside the fort. Every room is unique and fascinating. Everything was clean and comfortable. The staff make you feel like you’re at home and could not be friendlier. I came here after a recommendation from a family member, and I’m happy I did!
“What a beautiful hotel with great staff”
MaryK171 – Sidney – Australia – March 2020
i stayed at this hotel 6-9 March and i can highly recommend it. The decor was amazing the room was decorated in a very authentic way and breakfast on the terrace was special. The staff were very kind as there was a mix up at the arrival at the airport caused by poor internet at a previous hotel in Udiapur but all was sorted out and it was safe and really delightful. The staff took very good care of me and i would really recommend this hotel if u are wanting to stay in the fort and u are travelling alone. It is extremely special and i thoroughly enjoyed my stay
“5 star plus”
WJPLiverpool – UK – 14 March 2020
Wow, what a place and what an incredible experience it was to actually stay in a real-life fort!! The whole hotel is beautifully renovated and decorated in traditional style. Our room had a wonderful window seat at least a metre wide on which you could sit and watch the world going by in the town below. In fact there were loads of lovely places to sit and relax, the rooftops are stunning and a wonderful place to have the great breakfast. All the staff were really kind … nothing was too much trouble … we felt really cared for, thank you
“Phenomenal Fort – top View Boutique Hotel !!!”
Dorothy927 – March 2020
What an amazing experience!
Beautiful thoughtful decor with original textiles and furnishings !
Managed so hospitably by a family of 5 cohesive cousins who anticipate your every need.
They all made excellent suggestions of adventures to have in Jaisalmer.
Simply outstanding – we must return!!!
“Highlight of our trip”
jessicagross916 – February 2020
We just visited Jaisalmer and happened to find this hotel through a YouTube video. It was everything we could have expected and more. After 8 hours of driving we arrived exhausted. Bhanu, Manu, and Manish as well as the rest of the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The hotel itself has so much character and is absolutely stunning. All the common areas are decorated beautifully with incredible city and fort views. The breakfast in the morning is perfect out on the terrace with coffee, omelettes, toast, etc. They really made us feel like family here, and even after we checked out for a camel excursion, opened the hotel to us to refresh/shower, store luggage and grab drinks while we killed time for our flights. This hotel really made our trip, can’t recommend it enough!!
“Wonderful weekend away!”
Katesensei – New Delhi – India – February 2020
My friend and I enjoyed a lovely stay at Killa Bhawan! What a hidden gem amidst an ancient fort. Fantastic hospitality, delicious chai, friendly staff, and a fairy tale view of the fort/city. We took a taxi to the base of the fort. You aren’t allowed to take taxis in the fort so we swtiched to a rickshaw. Then after the farthest point the rickshaw can take you we walked about 100 meters to Killa Bhawan. Everyone is friendly and helpful when you need to find something in Jaisalmer!! ASK!
“Wonderful small hotel!”
Gussie 7 – London – UK – February 2020
We stayed here because our first choice hotel was full, and I’m glad we did. The hotel is built into the fort walls and is VERY convenient for all the tourist sites. The rooms are beautifully furnished with antiques (the mattress was modern and comfortable). There are a number of terraces with seating options to look over the city. Breakfast (note there is no restaurant so dinner has to be be eaten elsewhere) was outstanding with a good choice of food cooked to order. The staff were warm and welcoming and very, very friendly and helpful with dinner and visitor suggestions.
“Perfect spot !”
Tori O – California – USA – February 2020
This charming hotel is steeped with history and professionally and graciously run by Manu, Banu and their staff. Located IN the fort, with a perfect location. The views are gorgeous, comfortable beds & delicious breakfast. I think the highest compliment I can give is that we will be back!
“Superb”
Tiger1313 – Sidney – Australia – January 2020
Wonderful stay here. real atmosphere and being in the fort is highly recommended.
Lovely rooms full of antiques – outstanding service and they will deliver dinner from nearby restaurant – huge choice. Very warm – hearted they have a. great Havelli too suitable for two families – BIG rooms – and massive view of Jaisalmeer from the terrace of the hotel. Room 10 is totally wow and romantic. Lovely caring staff.
“Second visit”
Nishtab2017 – Ann Arbor – Michigan – USA – January 2020
Perched on top of the fort, this charming hotel affords a grand view of the palace, life on the ground, and vistas beyond. One can relax with a cup of tea or beer on the rooftop terrace and not go any further. If you must, historic attractions are within walking distance. Rooms are unique, comfortable, and well appointed. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. A Thali meal at KB Lodge is excellent fare.
“A little gem”
Nandita P – January 2020
Tucked away inside the stupendous Jaisalmer Fort- this small boutique hotel is a perfect blend of warm personal service and the comforts of a hotel. Very tastefully designed , the views of the city stretching below are breathtaking. We stayed in the top category room and would strongly recommend it. The knowledge and hospitality of Bhanu Ji made our stay even more perfect!
“Che meraviglia !”
EzioG426 – Chiavari – Italy – January 2020
“A memory of lifetime !”
VarunM – Bengaluru – India – December 2019
Stay in a house in the only living fort in India is a must-have & this hotel is a very fine choice for the same. It has a wonderful view of the city which kept us mesmerized all the time during our stay.
The hospitality of the staff & it’s owner, Bhanuji is just out of this world. The welcome meal of the best kachori’s & ginger tea took care of all our tiredness.
Bhanuji arranged a wonderful heritage walk with his friend Mr. Lalit & he opened a whole new perspective of this heritage city & it’s social constructs. The best ever heritage walk for us.
In essence, a night stay here gave us more memories than 2 nights at Marriot. I would recommend it to all my fellow travelers for a memory of a lifetime.
“Wonderful stay at Killa Bhawan”
Jack S – December 2019
Hotel Killa Bhawan is THE top notch accommodation in Jaisalmer’s Old Fort. Bhanu & Manu, the proprietors, make you feel right at home the moment you set foot in the hotel – literally, they are like “This is your home. Whatever you need, we will provide.”
The staff is excellent, attentive and extremely resourceful. I can’t speak more highly of Hotel Killa Bhawan and its team. The rooms are spacious, spotless, and beautifully decorated. The view from the terraces is immaculate to enjoy a sunrise, sunset, or nightcap.
Hotel Killa Bhawan is truly a delight.
“We were looked after very well”
Nidhi1978 -Anil Gupta – November 2019
We stayed for three nights, considering it is an old fort, it is well maintained. And the staff went out of their way to look after us. They were ready to make food for us at any time we wanted it. The room was traditional Havali type, and was very clean and comfortable. The views from the balconey were fantastic.
“An amazing place to stay”
Susiegw748 – Reading – UK – November 2019
This hotel is authentic but comfortable sitting high on the walls of the fort. The views are incredible and there is much to see and enjoy while you sit on the balcony enjoying your breakfast. We stayed in nine hotels during our trip to India and in this hotel we received the best service. Nothing was too much trouble.
“Home from Home”
Suzanne69367 – Bath – UK – October 2019
Outstanding, a family run hotel. why would you go anywhere else?A fantastic view of the fort from the terrace of the hotel . Great service and nothing is too much trouble, good breakfast.Recommend the family run KB restaurant a short walk away. A place to return to.
“Fort stay with top notch hospitality”
Pavan_jois – Bangaluru – India
Really appreciated the welcome we received and the service that was given in Killa Bhawan. Nothing was too much for the staff and they helped in every way possible!
We were upgraded to a suite with a terrific view; the place outside the suite was also private and felt like an extension of the suite. Breakfast is customised and has a homely touch.
Overall, this was the best stay of our 10 day Rajasthan trip and easily beats Fateh Prakash Palace in Udaipur, due to hospitality, and overall feel-good factor of a stay.
“Magnificent stay at Killa Bhawan”
Dorte H – Gentofte – Denmarks – October 2019
We stayed 2 nights at the Killa Bhawan and was thrilled by its location high above the bustling life of the Jaisalmer fort.
The atmosphere, the view, the crinkly interior and not least the staff of the Killa Bhawan more than outweighs the lack of pool and other 5* amenities. The hotel is clean and the staff is always ready to serve you on any of the many small terraces where you rest looking at the stars hearing the faint noise of the below town.
The manager Bhanu was friendly, helpful and always ready for a chat explaining about Jaisalmer, Rajasthan and the life in India in general as was his brother Manu and mr Singh the tuc-tuc driver who was always ready to take us down the winding roads of the fort for a walk in the surrounding town.
So Killa Bhawan is definitely worth it.
Looking forward to go back one day.

“Amazing experience”
Genkiboy – Balmain – Australia – September 2019
When we made our booking for Killa Bhawan, we were not aware that the hotel is actually built in one of the bastions of Jaisalmer Fort. We were delighted, therefore, to be welcomed into a beautiful suite with two balconies, one of which has a spectacular view. We took our breakfast on the terrace, also with an extensive view. It was such a relief to return to our comfortable air conditioned room after our outings in the heat. Our three nights in this hotel were very relaxing. Thank you to the friendly informative staff for looking after us during our visit to Jaisalmer.
“This is a home away from home”
Yamyirma – March 2019
My friends and I really enjoyed our stay here at Killa Bhawan. As one of the owners’ Mr. Banu said, “This is not a hotel, it is your home here in Jaisalmer”. It certainly felt that way. It was a warm welcome during an unusually cold and windy time. Located in the Jaisalmer Fort, you will not be short of stunning views of the city. Killa Bhawan is clean, beautiful and comfortable. Their Indian breakfast (they have a continental breakfast option) was delicious. The continuous supply of chai and hot coffee is fantastic too! If you need a guide, the owners can hook you up with one. We were extremely lucky to have Mr. Lalu as our guide. I found him very interesting and warm. Overall, I think this is your best option if you’re in Jaisalmer.
“Hotel with a view”
5rose6 – Newmarket – Canada – February 2019
Clean and inviting , family owned heritage boutique hotel inside the Jaisalmer fort .As the roads are narrow and the fort is open to visitors from 9-6, no Tuktuk or cars are allowed inside the fort.Wear comfortable shoes to walk up to the hotel, as it it is a good 5 min incline. At the hotel We were Greeted with our friendly hosts Manu, Bhano and Manish and we were guided , as per our requirements ,for our two night stay. Stayed in Room six, it was comfortable, there was some street noise ,but during the night it is very quiet . Excellent WI Fi. Breakfast was (Aloo, onion )prontha served with yogurt and fruits and masala chai, it was the best. Our hosts and were willing to help out with many of our questions.View from Kila Bhawan is one of a kind,it is an excellent place for people watching. We took a heritage tour with Lalit ji (know is Lalu) which was a wonderful experience . God willing, I will come again with my family.More
“Excellent place to stay”
Timpatterson – London – UK – January 2019
Absolutely fantastic place to base yourselves, within the ancient fort at Jaisalmer. Everything is within a 15 minute walk.
The staff are amazing and very helpful.
We loved being there.
Thank you for having us.
“Absolutely Stunning”
71Anetab – December 2018
We absolutely love our stay in this quirky hotel ( old fort accommodation). Its just beautifully set as a part of hero gate fort in Jaisalmer and there is no better place to stay. Gorgeous and enormous terraces with sweeping view of whole city, fort palace and dessert beyond. Location was superb, you can walk freely to discover the old fort.
Staff was very kind and attentive and they made us feel like we were at home. They allowed us to stay for free till we had a late train to catch which was incredible helpful with our kid that needed to rest for a bit.
We stayed there for 3 night but could easily stay longer , as it is one of most interesting stay in Rajasthan.
“Fabulous! Charming! Magical!”
Teresad907 – Madrid – Spain – November 2018
We spent three wonderful days at Killa Bhawan. It is a charming accommodation with tasteful decoration and exceptional views of Jaisalmer Fort and the city, and with the charm of living in one of the towers of the fort wall! Manich, his family and the staff were very kind, friendly and helpful and tried at all times to make our stay unforgettable. Although Killa Bhawan has not restaurant, breakfasts on the terrace were great and we tasted delicious Indian meals at the KB CAFE, a few minutes walk from the hotel and managed by the brother and family of Manich. We hope to return to Killa Bhawan in the future and highly recommend this magical place to those visiting Jaisalmer.
“This little Gem”
Kitukidogo – Stavanger – February 2018
One of my favourite places to stay in India.
I first visited Killa Bhawan in 2005 and was very taken with this exquisite little gem. This is a rare and special place. I had longed to visit again. When I finally did again in 2018, it was exactly as I remembered it.
Staying here feels like you are pampered guests visiting a friend’s house even if the house happens to be an 800 year old medieval fort with the most amazing views, oodles of atmosphere and antique furnishings!! Fabulous location, friendliness and attentiveness of the managers, rooms with amazing views located in an atmospheric old fort, lovely lounge areas with seating looking out over the town and the surrounding countryside all go towards making this one of my favourite places in India.
The rooms are beautiful, housed as they are in the old fort with lovely antiques but very clean and comfortable. It is a far cry from an anonymous chain hotel. Excellent breakfasts (try the Indian breakfast-we took home the achaar) and attentive service. The managers are very friendly and very helpful and know what they are doing. They run another café and another small hotel in the town. We had a decent lunch at the café, sitting on the roof terrace looking out at the beautiful old havelis of Jaisalmer.
One last point-stay in the fort and walk around in the evening when all the day tourists have left.
Jaisalmer itself is an enchanting place and Killa Bhawan really is the place to stay in Jaisalmer.
Room Tip: ask for one in the ramparts with views
“Has all the soul of Jaisalmer with all the comforts of home”
JeanA2776 – Cahattanooga – tennessee – USA – Stayed November 2017
If you think of a desert city as bleak, think again. You feel the magic of Jaisalmer, the Golden City, land of the Bhatti princes, born of the moon, as soon as it comes into view. The fort, rising from the mighty rock like a giant sand castle, parapets, balconies, and terraces included, crowns the city. The beauty of the living fort, the havelis, and the Jain temples, all carved from the same honey gold stone, will leave you breathless. And what better place to stay than a hotel in the fort built in 1056 AD. The Killa Bhawan hotel has all the soul of the fort and all the comforts of a luxury hotel. We knew we’d made the right hotel choice from the moment our host, Bahnu, welcomed us with a warm, “Relax, you’re home.” We were even more sure as we watched him wave goodbye to us from the city gates. Our flight was canceled because the mists rolled in from the “snows in Kashmir.” The tiny airport had canceled fights the day before and most likely would again the next day, so we weren’t sure how we would rework out plans. However, Bahnu and his staff at the hotel found us a driver and hotel in Jodhpur and handed us hot grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches wrapped in foil, along with spicy chips, chocolate cookies and cold bottled water for the trip…a canceled fight has never been so easy. It was this hospitality that we experienced daily in the city and especially at Hotel Killa Bhawan. The hotel and its café, just a short tuk-tuk ride away, will exceed all your expectations. If this isn’t the best hotel in Jaisalmer, I’ll kiss your thali.
Room Tip: The honeymoon suite with balcony was astonishing.
“A Jaisalmer Gem”
Damascasros – Sidney – Australia – January 2018
This boutique family run hotel, managed by Manish, one of the brothers, is set within the fort walls overlooking the fort and the Old City. From the moment we arrived we were met with a welcome to remember. We were led up to the terrace for a chai as Manish offered advice on our plans for our time in Jaisalmer. The people make the place and this was our experience at Hotel Killa Bhawan. The hotel and the rooms have an Arabian Nights feel. The view of the fort from our terrace was spectacular. We loved stepping out from our room onto the terrace looking out over the characteristic city and fort. A great place to break the exploration of the city with a relaxing chai sitting on the terrace and soaking up the atmosphere of this exotic city. Manish and the team made us feel at home and our stay here exceeded all expectations.
“Best place to stay in Jaisalmer”
TyWit Miami Beach Florida – USA – December 2017
After 4 flights and 2 missed connections, we finally arrived in Jaisalmer. Bhanu couldn’t have been more helpful, giving us a room to freshen up and store our luggage before heading to our desert safari. We were attending a wedding and he even called his cousin to give my husband some traditional attire to wear which worked perfectly! He upgraded us to the honeymoon suite which was stunning, overlooking the whole of Jaisalmer from a centuries old balcony with decor that made you feel like you were truly Rajasthani maharaja.
Room Tip: Ask for the honeyroom suite or a room with a balcony.
“Charming Hotel on the Fort”
IamZozo- Tel Aviv – Israel – December 2017
The hotel is located in the fort with beautiful views of the old city. We stayed at room no. 9 with a terrace in front of the room were breakfast is served. Banu and the rest of the team are superb. It is not a luxurious hotel so the hot water stream could have been stronger, but the atmosphere of the place and the hospitality of the team more than compensate for that
“Fabulous lodging in 800 years old fort”
Hansi H – December 2017
Our stay at Killa Bhawan was our favorite in 18 days touring Rajasthan. The hotels 8 rooms are unique and nook like with balconies, windowseats and nooks in all sorts of places. The staff is extremely helpful, warm and hospitable. The breakfast yummie and served on a terrace overlooking the town. It is nice to stay above the city overlooking the city absorbing the glow of the golden stones of which the city is built. A golden place in a golden city. Highly recommended.
“the most beautiful views, felt like a Princess”
Julia N – London – November 2017
The rooms were beautifully decorated in traditional Rajasthani style. The views from the terrace were amazing, making you feel like Jaisalmer Royalty. We had a lovely breakfast on the terrace overlooking the fort and the whole of Jaisalmer.
The staff were amazing and were there to help with anything and everything. We really enjoyed just hanging out on the terrace watching the Jaisalmer busy-ness from above.
Room Tip: Do note the showers aren’t the best as I think the water pressure in the fort isn’t great
“Fantastic property, amazing hosts!”
Isa_bu2014 – Milano – Italy – November 2017
Incredible location inside the Fort, with stunning views of old Jaisalmer. Our room was beautiful, and so were the terrace and the rest of the property.
The best thing, however, is the service. We truly felt like Killa was our home in Jailsalmer, with everything we needed and much more. We were even able to leave our luggage there overnight while on a camel tour, and to use their facilities the next day before leaving the city.
Highly recommended: an oasis of peace in the middle of the busy and noisy Jaisalmer.
“Opportunity to live like the Royals in a living fort !”
Niteen 158 – Cincinnati – Ohio – October 2017
Never imagined one could live in an actual fort. The hotel has the choicest location in the fort. The breakfast on the forts’ ramparts was an incredibly relaxing experience. Bhanu, the co-owner, is passionate about preserving history and improving the tourist’s experience in Jaisalmer. Rooms are clean, and immaculately decorated. Excellent service; the pickup from the railway station (at midnight) was absolutely flawless. Given a chance, would love to stay at this place again in the future.
“Stay inside the fort with great views”
Janet311947 – Adelaide – Australia – Stayed September 2017
Our room was most comfortable with plenty of room for three of us, a separate toilet apart from the bathroom. The manager, Manu was at pains to ensure that we wanted for nothing, along with the friendly staff. We enjoyed being able to sit on the terrace and learn, from Manu, about the local life while enjoying the views. Breakfast on the terrace was another highlight, I loved the masala omelette..
“Five Stars Hotel inside the Fort”
Gunjan S – Sidney – Australia – Stayed September 2017
We arrived in Jaisalmer taking the overnight train from Jaipur. Since arrival Bhanu and his team has taken extreme good care of us. The hotel is inside the Golden Fort and is exquisite. Ideal for international travelers and others. The hotel offers pick up service from the railway station, and is worthwhile to do so. We hadn’t arranged this nevertheless, one phone call and Mr Bhanu’s team picked up our luggages from the entrance to the Fort. It’s a 4 minute walk to the hotel from the entrance.
We were welcomed with nimboo paani (lime water) and it was refreshing. Mr Bhanu and team can speak fluent English and we had no issues communicating.
The view from the hotel is breathtaking and is very special. The rooms have antique furniture and they have created the look and feel of living in a palace. It was beautiful.
Mr Bhanu was full of good suggestions and we arranged to go to the desert safari at his recommendations. Again, was perfectly arranged. Rajasthan and Jaisalmer is quite safe for travellers.
Next morning the hotel team arranged a big breakfast spread. It was toast, omelette, fruits, juice, butter, jam and we opted for tea. If you’re keen for Indian food it would be good to speak to the staff the night before about it otherwise it just takes a bit longer. We were in a hurry and hence opted for the continental breakfast. The hotel even organised our travel to Jodhpur.
We have only to admire the care we were given and got to know a few things about the culture from the team and Mr Bhanu.
Highly recommend staying there for the local experience.
P.s. water was provided free for us (per our booking) not sure if this is the same for all guests.
Thank you Mr Bhanu and team.
“Very Nice Hotel”
katiakat8 – Toulon – France – Stayed September 2017
A magnificent view of the city. lovely staff. Rooms very clean and nicely decorated. peaceful and quiet place. Breakfast on the terrace …. Just a pity they do not serve food.
“Incredible views and great rooms”
Nirmal K – Stayed August 2017
My wife and I were really happy with our choice in this hotel. Beautiful hotel, well maintained and incredible views. Docking one star for lack of a restaurant or even the option of menus from nearby restaurants – and there are very good restaurants nearby. All travelers wanting to stay in the Fort area have to know this though – there is no four or three wheeler access to any of the hotels inside the fort. You have to park at the parking area, take a three wheeler to the top gate (if you have a bit of luggage) and walk to your hotel.
“Magical atmosphere, exotic locale”
Giolibertino – Philadelphia – USA – Stayed March 2017
Beautiful and exotic property located in the actual fort of Jaisalmer.
I almost skipped over Jaisalmer in planning my itinerary, but staying at this hotel made me so happy I did not.
It must be said that this hotel is actually IN THE FORT, so it would be absurd to think you can find all 5 star amenities and such that you might at other high-end hotels. That being said, you have all you need here, a warm, comfortable and inviting atmosphere combined with one of the most exotic locations we stayed in all our trip.
The property is a well maintained, very clean, multi-layered, multi-terraced, haveli with quaint courtyards, balconies and sitting rooms all within the fort. The terraces offer fantastic views of the rest of the fort as well as the city beyond. The included breakfast is modest but nice with choice of a few well prepared dishes. You may chose to eat in a number of places, several which offer wonderful views of the sprawl of the fort.
The location is great. Easy to access all of the fort (you are after all in it) as well as the city which lies right at the foot of the fort.
The rooms are clean, well appointed with antique furnishings and quite comfortable. The linens were clean and white and bed mattress was comfortable. There is no TV (which is very nice), but there is WiFi, A/C, and heat for if the nights get cold. Our room had a detached bathroom which was very clean, our own balcony facing the courtyard and an attached sitting area with wonderful views of the city.
The staff is fantastic. They work hard. The younger Nepalese boys are very accommodating and the manager Manu is fantastic. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed and made to feel so at home in every way.
If ever I return to Jaisalmer, I would never consider staying anywhere else.
“Definitely an Experience”
Missynat1125 – Switzerland – April 2017
You choose this hotel in the fort because precisely of that. It is located inside Jaisalmer fort, the only working fort in India where there are over 300 families living inside the fort. It is not everyday that you can say you have stayed in a fort that is over 800 years old.
Killa Bhawan has the modern comforts that you would expect from a modern hotel – plumbing, hot and cold water, air conditioning yet it has not lost its old world charm. I got one of the deluxe rooms where I had my own private Juliet balcony overlooking the ‘downtown’ of Jaisalmer.
Every morning I had breakfast on the terrace with a breathtaking view of the fort and surrounding area.
“Location was great, staff was even better !”
RT – Frametown – Virginie Occidentale – March 2017
There is no comparison to staying in the fort. Wonderful terrace with amazing views of the city. Breakfast was served there with the best fresh squeezed orange juice I’ve ever had. The staff was not merely courteous, friendly, and efficient, but they went out of their way to be helpful. Good location for visiting the temples inside the fort and the markets outside the fort. The rooms were decorated with local furnishings, not like a sterile hotel. The one caveat – cars are not allowed in the fort. You can take a tuk-tuk, but we arrived very very late at night so we had to walk. It is not a bad walk in the daytime, but at midnight after a long day, it seemed arduous. But unless you have a severe mobility problem, don’t let that keep you from staying in this great place. You won’t regret it.

Lovely hotel in the fort – although the rooms may be a bit on the small side they are very nice, with private bathroom. Hotel is centrally located within walking distance of most places to visit. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpfull. Love the attitude of staff – helped us with a booking for desert excursion and overnight stay. Breakfast with a great view of the city. Will certainly go back if visiting Jaisalmer again.
“If you go all the way to Jaisalmer, stay here!”
Copperrosemaiden – Westcliffe – Colorado – USA – March 2017
Sure, you can stay outside the town at the new Marriott, but this is the real thing. No car traffic inside the actual fort, so you are taken to the hotel by tuk-tuk. We had rooms 9 and 10, which are on the top level, and both were amazing. The staff served tea anytime up there on the terrace, and a lovely outside breakfast made to request as well. It was also a wonderful place to have wine and relax after a long day. Room 10, which I believe was the honeymoon suite, has several wonderful private sitting areas, and even a juliet balcony overlooking the city below. Could the shower use a little more water pressure? Sure – but remember where you are and why you are there! This is perfect.
“Breathes history, still offers all modern amenities”
Julia 1976 – Salzburg – Austria – Stayed February 2017
The Khilla Bhawan is a wonderful gem situated right in the fort of Jaisalmer. The walls breathe history, the views are breath-taking, the rooms are not big, but very tastefully furbished and offer every amenity one needs from bathrobes to a hair-driver. Every little detail has been paid attention to and the staff is super-attentive.
We could have spent hours just sitting on the terrace sipping the free tea or coffee and enjoying the views over the city.
The owner was wonderful – passionate about his hotel and about his city and a great host. We had booked a safari tour afterwards on the internet, and when we inquired about how we could get there, he took our luggage there himself so that we could enjoy a walk there.
Absolutely recommended!
Room Tip: There are both rooms with and without bathroom – so watch out when booking!

The most gorgeous glorious views and a unbelievably kindest KINDEST staff. This is one of my very all time favorite places I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world! Simple in many many ways, but this is real luxury, 850 years old. We appreciated everything you did for us here. I would recommend this place far and wide. Prepare for pure magic! (P.s, you will need to bring your own hair conditioner!)

A stand out highlight hotel on this trip. We paid a lot ($220) for their “honeymoon suite” but it was well worth it. It’s such a great spot inside the Fort itself anyway, but our room also had its own balcony over-looking the entire hotel, terrace, Fort and beyond. You quickly fall into the easy pace of the hosts – two cousins – Manu and Manesh – who then introduce you to their two cousins – Bharat and Banu – who run KB Lodge over the other side with a view to the Fort (a cleverly priced and charming cheaper alternative for people like us who can only afford to splash out for one night of their trip). Jaisalmer gets full marks in my books as still relatively parochial and unspoilt, compared to somewhere such as Jodhpur. Plenty of jocular local guides/opium dealers, who will cater to your every need, but generally who are not too pushy and seem genuinely happy just making small talk with you, even if this doesn’t result in them making any money off of you.

Personale cordiale e proprietario attento e presente.
“Spectacular stay with one recommendation”
Moonbathing – San Francisco – California – With friends in January 2017
This is a breathtaking place. On the ramparts of Jaisalmer’s fort, its maze of rooms and terraces is a fairy tale fantasy. The rooms are gorgeously decorated with views of the city below. Breakfast is fantastic, plentiful, with crepes, omelettes, juices and fruits. Service is exemplary. From Manu to Manish to Sambu and the rest of the crew, everyone truly went out of their way to be helpful and ensure a perfect stay. India is not always easy to navigate and the staff helped us with anything we needed, from finding an ATM that had money to booking our new year’s eve Bollywood dinner. My only recommendation to the hotel is to invest in a power generator. Electricity was out every morning in Jaisalmer and my room got extremely cold, even under the blankets. I look forward to returning very soon.
“Wonderfull ancien Inn”
Beltayne – Crete – January 2017
This small hotel lies within the very walls of the fort. You need not travel for spectacular views they are through your window. The hotel is decorated in a style to match it’s ancient stones that is positively thrilling. The staff are wonderful, helpful and friendly. The breakfast is very good and leaves you ready to explore the fort. The hotel is placed near to the main fort square from which it is an easy walk, or easier tuq tuq ride to the town below. Definitely the place to stay in Jaisalmer.
Room Tip: Room 10 is amazing
“A very special place”
EcuaAmericana – Berkeley – California – Stayed January 2017
This was an exceptional hotel (only 8 rooms) in the Jaisalmer Fort. From what I could tell, all of the rooms were quite nice and tastefully decorated with local tapestries and artifacts. My room had a shared bathroom, but there was never anyone else in it, in spite of the hotel being full. Breakfasts were great and I felt like I could order whatever I wanted. I tried the “pancake,” which was more like a crepe with bananas and honey…very delicious. Over the three days I was there, along with the pancake I had fresh fruit (a large serving, so be aware of that), fresh-squeezed orange juice, eggs and an omelet and, of course, plenty of chai or coffee. I requested a croissant and they went to the German bakery not far away to get one for me. I don’t think the croissant is worth the special trip as the food at the hotel was better than the croissant. The staff were wonderful, friendly and very accommodating.
An important thing guests should be advised of, which I believe is an issue throughout most of Jaisalmer, is that the electricity seems to go out daily. At least it did each of the three days I was there. It was mostly in the morning and for not that long. However, there was no back-up. I’d recommend they put candles or lanterns around for people when that happens. (Also, you need to turn the hot water heater on for 10 minutes prior to showering, so no electricity could affect your planning!)
Finally, as in a lot of Jaisalmer, to get to some of the rooms and getting around the hotel, there are steps to climb, but not too many. I was surprised that in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer there were so many steps, and some of them quite steep. It wasn’t a big issue for me, but if I had knee or other health issues it’s something to be aware of.
Whatever inconvenience the electrical outages were, my stay there was well worth it, and I’d go back in a heartbeat!
“Idyllic hotel located in the Jaisalmer Fort, expensive and worth it”
HippieInHeels – Mumbai – India – December 2016
We visit a lot of forts but how often do we get to stay in one? No amount of research prepares you for an experience such as this. This hotel, is among the few situated on the densely populated fort. The lobby, rooms and breakfast area are done up in quaint fashion with lot of wooden furniture and decorated with patchwork and framed pictures of era gone by. I wish they had a mirror in the room though. Must let you know that the part owner is a French national who resides in the south of France. The core team has been working together since the last 28 years. The point being, they are efficient and provide you with a great stay. One can spend time on the common verandah or the terrace if you aren’t up to venturing out. When you do venture out you will walk into the hullabaloo of the city in a few minutes. I visited Jaisalmer for New Year’s Eve and experienced lovely weather and saw some awesome sights throughout the city.

Magnificent little spot.
Really magic room, we stayed in a suite. You are up in the fort and have several gorgeous forttop balconies to sit and have your GnT at.
Jaisalmer fort is incredible and you are up in the midst of it all.
Warm helpful staff. Manu the manager is a legend, offers great advice on Jaisalmer, and very interesting to talk to.
We were blown away by Killa Bhawan – genuinely one of the most beautiful little spots we have stayed.
“Gorgeous views, Great Atmosphere”
ArielZ28 – Palo Alto – California – Stayed December 2016
Inside the beautiful Jaisalmer fort, an oasis of peace only a few steps from the bustling main square. Nicely decorated room–we had one of the rooms with a private bath, has both A/C and heating (we didn’t need that even though it was end of December).
Another big bonus: the terraces overlooking the fort and the city where you can relax, enjoy a drink or a book and in the morning the breakfast is served there.
Don’t expect a 5 star luxury hotel, but the place has its own magic, highly recommended.
Room Tip: There are some rooms with private bath and some with shared…make sure you’re not surpris
“Loved it”
Colette M – 27 November 2016
We booked for two nights and ended up staying for three we enjoyed ourselves so much.
Killa bhawan offers a complementary breakfast which was really delicious. The rooftop is great to have drinks on in the evening and your breakfast in the morning. The staff are incredibly attentive and helpful and the rooms and the hotel are beautifully furnished. The shared bathroom is not an issue, it is only two rooms that share a bathroom and you are on your own floor, the hotel also provides beautiful robes.
The only thing I could fault this hotel on is its water pressure and heat which was sporadic when we were there.
“Romantic & Restful”
Expl0rer0…Holmfirth, UK, stayed November 2016
We have never stayed in accommodation actually built into the walls of a fort before and looked down 100 metres to the city below from an ornate balcony festooned with rich cushions. Jaisalmer is a very atmospheric city within the walls of the fort and palace. Killa Bhawan adds considerably to that atmosphere and just helps you recharge your batteries in double-quick time.
Furnishings and artefacts in the room are in keeping with the feel of the location and everything is tasteful. Even the dressing gowns provided for guest use are out-of-the-ordinary. The views from many of the rooms are terrific, especially if you have one facing out from the wall, as we did. Breakfast and service were excellent, with the best bananas tasted anywhere in Rajasthan! Attention to detail is excellent too, and you can also obtain a helpful city map to guard against getting lost. The only real problem was the water pressure which seriously affected the shower. However, despite that shortcoming, this was an excellent experience for our one nights’s stay. I wish we had stayed longer.

We stayed 2 nights with our 3 kids and loved it. We felt like at home thanks to the staff who is really nice. The house looks very much like a riad on Marrakech and the terrace where we took out breakfast has an amazing view!

A charming hotel indeed. When deciding where to stay we’d deliberated between staying in or looking at the fort – staying here was 100% the right call as you pretty much can do both at the same time.
The hotel terrace is the fort wall and has a good view of the gates and part of the wall which in the early morning light glows reddish before the sun is up too far, and then looks towards the sunset in the evening. The midday sun is pretty hot but the rooms stay nice and cool and there are options for sitting out without being in direct sun.
Our room was beautifully done – we love these little hotels where every room is unique. The shower water pressure wasn’t the best, but the water was hot.
Above all this was the service, they went above and beyond. I wasn’t feeling great so to stop me going out for food, they fetched local restaurant menus and then went and fetched takeaways for us. There was also nothing formulaic about the service which made it feel like they really cared, something we both really appreciated. Its also a good touch for there being no limit on free water from the fridge. For those wanting a beer in the hotel, grab yourself a bottle or two from the wine shop near the first gate before coming up to the fort, you can’t miss it.
Being within the walls, it’s a fantastic location which allows you to be able to walk around the fort any time, particularly when the tour groups aren’t there. It’s a whole lot more enjoyable without the crowds.
For those looking for a good sunset photo spot, ‘sunset point’ is only 10mins or so in a car and is well worth the view after about 4:30. All guides and taxis know it. From the hotel terrace you look straight out at it, it’s nice to see the view looking back.

I have to say staying at this place was the best hotel experience i had. Locates on the top of the most astounding structure in jaisalmer with a birds eye view of the old city & outskirts till 5-6 kms, the staff was very friendly and caring & rooms have been equipped with all basic necessities required.
Best part: sipping tea in common living area & having breakfast on terrace.
“Killa Bhawan an incredible hotel with very good karm”
KDS Stayed January 2016 with family
If you want a 5* impersonal hotel where no one remembers your name or where you have just a bedroom but no private terrace then keep looking! If you want to feel special, to have your own rooftop terrace, a quiet dining area and where they make a point of knowing you then stay at Killa Bhawan. Friendly staff, who treat you like a prince/princess, serve beautiful but simple food, help keep some of the street dogs alive and will do anything then stay here. If you want great no amazing views the stay here!! And if you want your choice to be peaceful then again come and stay here!!

Professional & helpful staff The staff and the rooms were extremely amazing and is a must visit. manager and his team did an exceptional job in making us try the wonderful cuisines.Customer service was excellent. We loved having a cafe to eat in for lunch or dinner when we didn’t feel like an Indian meal – this is rare to find in most Indian hotels. The suites which include private roof access were large and good worth.
“The best hotel we have stayed at in India ”

A relaxing stay in a beautiful setting. From the moment we arrived the staff were quietly spoken and extremely helpful. The outlook from the balconies has to be seen to be believed – photos just don’t do it justice. The rooms are clean and decorated in a subtle but yet traditional Indian manner. The breakfasts cooked to order are the best we have had since we arrived in India two weeks ago.
